Backup recover method

Hi,

I'm moving mail server from one Directadmin server to another, using backup.

First created same email accounts on new server, then changed dns records. After few hours created an backup on old server and now I want to recover this backup on new server.

The question is: what's gonna happen with the messages that are in the new servers mailboxes? They will stay or be overwritten?
